United Christian Preschool (연합유치원)

United Christian Preschool (연합유치원), part of Washington United Church, is a family-founded childcare and preschool program located in Centreville, Virginia. We serve children ages 18 months to 5 years in a nurturing, faith-based environment. Our goal is to provide families with more than just a place to leave their children during the day—we create a space where children feel safe, loved, and supported as they begin their educational journey.

Our story began in 1996 in Texas, where Mrs. Hwang and Pastor Hwang opened a small Christian learning center with a clear vision: to provide children with high-quality early childhood education grounded in faith, family, and care. That mission grew with time. After relocating to Virginia in 2003, the Hwangs began offering home-based childcare to serve their new community.

As word spread about their compassionate approach and dedication to young children, the demand for their program grew. In 2012, the home daycare expanded into our current location and became United Christian Preschool—now a trusted name for childcare and preschool in Centreville and the surrounding areas.

Our preschool was built on the values of trust, safety, and faith. We believe that the early years are the foundation for lifelong learning, and it’s during this time that children need the most love, guidance, and stability. At UCP, we prioritize each child’s well-being while encouraging curiosity, play, and a sense of belonging.

Our Christian values shape how we teach, care, and interact with children and their families. We believe that every child is a unique creation, worthy of love and respect. We help children grow not only in academic skills, but also in kindness, patience, empathy, and gratitude. These spiritual and social-emotional values are woven into our daily routines and classroom experiences.

We are also proud to be a culturally responsive preschool that welcomes families from all backgrounds, including Korean-American families. Many of our staff members are bilingual in Korean and English, allowing us to better support families who speak Korean at home and wish for their children to thrive in both languages and cultures.

Community is at the heart of what we do. We don’t just care for your child—we build relationships with your family. Whether through family events, celebrations, or annual reunions, we stay connected to the families we serve. Many of our families remain close to us long after their children have moved on to elementary school.

United Christian Preschool also partners with Fairfax County and participates in the CCAR (Child Care Assistance and Referral) program, which helps eligible families receive financial assistance for childcare. We are committed to making high-quality care more accessible for families who need it. All of our staff are committed to professional growth and excellence. Each teacher and caregiver completes ongoing training and continuing education every year to stay up to date on the latest in early childhood education, safety practices, and child development.
